This Trade Mission will run concurrent with Thessalonikis world-renowned International Trade Fair, a foremost annual business Confab in Greece. A Message From The First Deputy Director
The City of Philadelphia supports the efforts of the Hermes Expo International in the promotion of trade with Greece. As a result of the efforts of Paul Kotrotsios, President of Hermes Expo International and Chris Christakis, Chairman of the Greece Business Advisory Council serving Greater Philadelphia, the city participated in a trade mission to Greece in 2003. This Council was formed in 2001, following an inbound delegation from Thessaloniki to Philadelphia hosted by Mr. Kotrotsios. The purpose of this Council is to strengthen relations between Greece and the Greater Philadelphia area with special emphasis on Thessaloniki in order to enhance more business opportunities. Additionally in 2001, the City of Philadelphia signed a Memorandum of Agreement between Philadelphia and Thessaloniki, Greece, with both cities agreeing to strengthen cultural, education and economic trade.
In 2003, Philadelphia exports to Greece totaled $54,171,953 and imports totaled $17,112,925, and we want to increase trade in this market. We recognize that Greece is an important market that is expanding globally and is ready to do business. This has been made clear to us through the number of trade delegations from Greece that has visited our city.
This second trade mission to Greece that is also being led by Mr. Paul Kotrotsios, President of Hermes Expo International, from September 8-18, 2005, will enable regional businesses to continue to explore trade and investment opportunities with prospective businesses in Greece. Opportunities that prevail from this mission can be good for both economies and we wish the Hermes Expo International Trade Mission to Greece much success.
Respectfully submitted,
Mjenzi K. Traylor First Deputy Director, City of Philadelphia
