I've got nothing against greek americans - I'm a greek Australian

I know how it feels like growing up in the exoterico,and how hard it is to sustain your culture.I find it very hard to communicate in greek but I'm not ashaimed of it.Intead of living in a normal household with normal parents to teach me my native taunge - I was dragged from place to place from one school to another and after my parents devorce I was forced to choose between my mother or my father.I went with mom and moved to Sydney(form Melbourne) and I had to start all over again - new house,new school,new friends.New dad.All my friends where Australian because they didn't judge me for coming from a broken home.I related to them better,they dont gossip or try and suss out your situation at home like most greeks do.And besides,I lived in an all Australian suburb.Not much ethnicity.
Now,at 21 I'm studying greek part time.Reading and writing,sometimes I try and read some of the greek magazines.I know more greek than I used to and since I visited Greece two years ago -for the first time and met my family,I' am making more effort now.

Those who recon that it doesnt cost much to get some greek education compared to a creational class heres a clue ; dance lesson - AU$10
Tafe/language course AU$1700 a term.Not including books and public transport coming to and from school every day.Most Greek australians move out at the age of 23 and dont have the family support that greeks in greece do.The living in australia is the hardest,we have the toughest tax system in the world - not only do we have TAX,but we also have GST and the goverment chooses to put gst on everything he wants,higher gst on things considered to be a luxury like;bread,butter,clothes and education

Do you know how much money it takes to go and get a propper education in Australia?If you want to go to university , depending on the subjects you choose,it starts from $30,000 a year.You're course may run for 4 years thats $120,000 just to qualify for something average in life,and if you dont then your stuck in unemployment like the rest of the 75% of uneployed young people.

Thats just sick!
We should have a strong greek community where ever we are,so we can have more choices reguarding education,why dont we have it?Because the goverment puts it in the F list where the rest of the luxury items are - on the reserve for the rich only category along with bread and cheese.

what has the world come to if we cant help ourselves and be good to one another rather than be nasty to the weak and the un-educated.

Kalomira did her best and she deserved all her winnings may many many more to come.In order for good things to happen to our lives we must be happy for the good things that happen to others too.We can t be selfish in life.Kalomira had alot of courage to come to greece - full of gossipy people who take the first plunge to put someone down and destroy them.She worked very hard with her greek songs , I could never remember so many greek lyrics and having to sing them too.Greek songs are harder to sing than english,english songs are nothing compared to greek.Greek is full of in depth lyrics and complex melodies,so reguarding all that she did very well.Congratulations to her and her family for she made all of us omogenis PROUD I say it again PROUD!
