CHICAGO, September 27 -- The Cyprus Federation of America will honor World Council of Hellenes (SAE) President Andrew A. Athens with the *Justice for Cyprus Award* at a New York gala dinner October 5.
*It is, certainly, gratifying and a great honor to receive this prestigious award and to be recognized for a sacred cause such as Cyprus,* Mr. Athens stated in Melbourne, Australia, where he is attending a very successful regional World Council of Hellenes (SAE) convention, the first of four to be held worldwide this fall.
The Cyprus Federation of America presents *The Justice For Cyprus Award* annually *to those who have been exemplary leaders and outspoken advocates of the just and noble cause for the liberation of Cyprus from the Turkish occupation forces and the restoration of human rights.*
This year, recipients of the award include Peter Papanicolaou, former president of the Cyprus Federation of America, Inc., and the Honorable Frank Pallone, member of the U.S. House of Representatives (D-NJ). *The cause for justice in Cyprus has brought us together with many Americans who hold public office and share our vision of a free Cyprus,* Mr. Athens commented. *Now, more than ever, we have to intensify our efforts to reach this goal because of the unique window of opportunity opened by the prospects of accession of Cyprus and Turkey to the European Union.*
The awards will be presented at the Cyprus Federation of America 2002 Annual Awards Gala, Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6:00 p.m., at the Terrace on the Park, 52-11 111th Street, Flushing Meadow Park, Queens.
