Where did it come from?

Can anyone tell me where the english langauge came from.

I thought it was germanic but i spoke to a friend yesterday and he said it was latin.

Almost correct.

It comes from Greek and Latin

English has had both greco-latin and saxon influences. Little everyday words like 'egg' are of Saxon origin (shared with countries like Germany).
