Perhaps you are overly sensitive or too politically correct. Booing is an expression of dissatifaction and with this behaviour Greeks expreseD their antipathy to hypocrissy of the IOC and WADA and NOT towards the American athletes. DON"T FORGET THAT JAQUES ROGUE WAS ENTHOUSIASTICALLY CHEERED WHEN HE MENTIONED THAT THESE WOULD BE CLEAN GAMES(AND THIS WAS AFTER THE kEDERIS-THANOU INCIDENT ). Are you also complaining about the gymnastics expression of dissatifaction with the judges? Was that in bad taste too or do you expect sports fans to swallow/accept whatever biased judges or selective testing procedures by corrupt IOC officials serve them? A way of Grreeks to say ΞΕΡΟΥΜΕ ΤΙ ΓΙΝΕΤΕ, ΔΕΝ ΜΑΣΑΜΕ ΧΟΡΤΑ:) And may I remind you that hundreds of other american athletes were warmy cheered for their efforts. yes there was booing but not a single pushing/shoving incident and no violnce of any kind was reported. Booing is NOT un-olympic; complacency is.
Thanks

Very well said LEMB.

By the way Anongirl or Liberty or many other names is an antihellenic person and always finds something against Greece. Don't pay too much attention to these postings.

Well said careless, I was a volunteer during the Olympics and had to work with the crowds a lot. I just like to add that a disturbing number of citizens of certain island nation in northen Europe that still thinks of itself as an empire arrived in Greece thinking the country was another one of their colonies and they behaved as rude colonizers! They were the most uncouth, arrogant, unsofisticated, iand disrespectful ingrates I have ever come across. They just found it hard to accept that little humble Greece managed under the worst possible conditions of world stability to deliver trully the best gaes ever. Ah how dissapointed they were.

Hey Non, we're all proud to be Greek and we all love Greece. No arguement there. But you seem to measure your pride by what some ignorant, biased, nisinformed, uninformed reporter writes about Greece.
Well, I've gone beyong that and my pride is based on the achievements of this little country and its people, and I don't mean its ancient history but the recent past and the present. If you scratch beneath the ouzo, mousaka, Mykonos and Santorini of today you'll discover a land of trailblazers in art, culture, science and more. This is somehting to be extremely rpoud of. Also if you believe that the Olympic Movement a sit exists today is about peace and love etc then you live in Michael Jackson's LaLa Land. The true Olympic movement has been hijacked by comercialism and exploitation. The real contribution of Athens to this movement is that it is the only Olympic city that offered some kind of resistance to this hijacking of this noble event. The booing and hissing at the gymnastics venue and the 200m event was an expression of this resistance. And that is something to be proud of.

Well-said Lemb. Greeks have spirit and we show it every single day! I, for one, will not be silenced by anyone who thinks that we should curtail our freedom of speach and freedom of expression. We must remind anongirl that it was not the US who invented the notions of freedom of speach and freedom of expression - it was the ancient Greeks who first valued the rights of the individual citizen and their right to express themselves. It was the Greeks who believed in one voice and one vote - perhaps anongirl needs some more lessons in ancient Greek history so that she can be proud of her Greek heritage and her fellow Greeks. And like you said, it was not the US athletes that the Greek crowd was booing, it was the hypocracy of it all that they couldn't stomach and had they done anything less I would not have been as proud of them. And by the way, cheering and booing is an integral part of sporting events, whether you cheer for the home town or you boo the visitors, it is expected either way. May I also remind you of a couple of unbecoming incidents that American sporting crowds have been involved in? One is during the Salt Lake City Games, the American women's ice hockey team took a Canadian flag, layed it on the floor and took turns stomping on it - a display of incredible unsportsmanship and unbecoming behaviour for athletes. Another incident is the American crowd at a hockey game in Detroit when they booed the Canadian national anthem, and yet another disgraceful display was flying the Canadian flag upside down. So, before you start criticizing the Greeks for displaying their emotions, don't forget the saying "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"!

Lem, this is not the first time that American athletes or sports fans have behaved badly where us Canadians are concerned. Just because we are viewed by the rest of the world to be a polite peace-loving nation, Americans feel that they can tread on us all they want and that we won't mind. In fact, we always seem to forget that such incidents have occurred and we forgive and forget. Do that to an American flag or boo Americans and you will be made to forever remember it - like they say, elephants never forget. I guess anongirl hasn't gone out to many sporting events where Americans have behaved badly, or maybe she has and she didn't notice it because it is considered to be normal behaviour where Americans are concerned nowadays.
