Anti- American sentiments from Sfakianaki
      #1884 - Fri Nov 30 2001 02:26 PM

My mother told me about an interview yesterday on Antenna with Sfakianaki (I used to have Antenna but cancelled the service because I got sick of all the anti-American sentiments and propoganda being portrayed by the antenna news network), where he was asked of what he thinks of the U.S. he is quoted in short as saying...." einai patsavoura" which means a dirty, old, soiled rag.He is entitled to his opinion. More troubling was when he was asked the follow-up question that his comments were not fair, and what about the Greek-Americans here in the U.S., he just simply shrugged his shoulders, insinuating he feels the same. Who does Sfakianaki think he is, greater than the whole? As Greek-Americans we have supported his music, bought his CD's went to his concerts. No more.It is one thing to have a political view, but its another to lack decency and respect. Sadly you will find those sentiments highly prevolent in greek society today.

What Sfakianaki said, is irrelevant. Canceling your subscription to a news service because of it, is ... to say the least ... questionable intelligence.

You learn more by listening to those with different opinions than yours. You learn to check the facts, to question your beliefs, to make certain of your understandings. I treat the media like my doctor. I want three opinions before I believe.

But if this is not important to you, what will you do? If you were to cancel your subscriptions to all the media that used propaganda or was anti-this or anti-that, you'd have nothing to listen, to view, or to read. I am still listening to CNN among others, no matter how hard it is to bypass their own brand of propaganda and anti-everybodyness.

Lets face it: Only our own minds make the difference.

You misunderstood, argostoliotisa.I did not cancel the subscription because of sfakianaki, or solely anti- american sentiments. I however do not need to pay for it.I can read it or watch it elsewhere for free. It was so indiscrimintely biased and one sided it was sickening. Truly. If they are a trustworthy and accurate news outlet, do you not think they should report the story from both sides, honestly.?
I do believe in free speech and in different opinions. You are not the only free-mind in this world. State your opinion, yes, and i will respect it, but do not be judgemental. THAT is not intelligent.
