AHEPA Family Delegation Concludes Excursion,
Celebrates Greek Independence Day in Athens

ATHENS, Greece The 10-person AHEPA family delegation concluded its two-week
overseas excursion here today as witnesses to Greek Independence Day
celebrations that included observing the national parade. The delegation
was afforded the honor of sitting in the review stand as guests of President
of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias.

It was a thrill and an honor to be in Athens to witness this wonderful
celebration Manios said. The display of Hellenic pride was very moving
to see and for our delegation to experience

The group wrapped up a week of meetings in Athens yesterday with PASOK
Leader and former Foreign Minster George Papandreou. The delegation also
paid its respects with a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown.

Earlier this week, the delegation was received by: American Ambassador to
Greece Charles Ries, President Papoulias, Deputy Foreign Minister Panayiotis
Skandalakis, Speaker of the Parliament Anna Psarouda-Benaki, Minster of
Tourism Dimitris Avramopoulos, His Beatitude Archbishop Christodoulos, and
were hosted by Mr. Alexander Mitrogogos, special advisor to Mayor Dora
Bakoyannis.

Our meetings were fruitful in identifying areas where we can continue to
use our resources to benefit Hellenism ; said Manios, who updated Greek
government officials on how AHEPA meets its mission in the community on a
daily basis through its grassroots network. We appreciate the time
afforded to us by the Greek government as well as the assistance of the
American Embassy in helping to make our visit a success

In addition, the delegation also met with local AHEPA family chapters in
Athens, which hosted the group on March 22.

Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope Demetra Kapolis is accompanying
Manios on the excursion.

White House To Issue Proclamation

The supreme president will be in Washington, DC on Monday for the issuance
of a proclamation ;Greek Independence Day: A National Day of Celebration of
Greek and American Democracy by President George W. Bush.

We thank President Bush for commemorating the importance of Greek
Independence Day and for acknowledging the shared democratic heritage and
principles of the United States and Greece Manios said. I look forward
to being in Washington on Monday
