Hellenic Television 3 (ET3) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Teachers' Union an Hellenic Volunteers NGO, organises a Television Marathon Broadcast in support of the Calash tribe. The Calash tribe lives in the remote Caucasian highlands of North Western Pakistan. According to their ancient tradition, they are direct descendants of the Greek soldiers who fought with Alexander the Great during his expeditions in Asia. This remarkable people still bear a unique tradition incorporating religious and cultural features that trace back in Ancient Greece. On the 6th February 1998 ET3 broadcasted the first Television Marathon in support of the Calash: donations reached the total sum of 30,000,000 drs (88,235 Euros). Four years later, the Calash teacher Anis Omar will be arriving in Greece in order to show his people's appreciation for this vital financial support and to share information about their current living conditions. During the broadcast, videos will be showing the infrastructure works realized due to this financial support. The event will be also featuring traditional Calash music performed by young Calash members that study in Greece. The marathon will be broadcasted by ERT-SAT (13/4/2002 19:30-23:30) and trasmitted live via Internet.
