Mark 'Chopper' Read - Australia's most notorious career criminal, an underworld executioner, and the Number 1 'Standover Man' who allegedly commited nineteen murders - and got away with it. Or so the story goes, as published in his first autobiography entitled "From the Inside", which sold over 250,000 copies.
Described as a man who inexplicably meshed sadism and charm, known to have committed heinous acts, and even attempted to endear himself to a jury at one stage. Read became a bizarre celebrity soon after his autobiography became a bestseller, and within six months of its release was back in jail writing his second memoir: "How to Shoot Friends and Influence People." Read currently lives in rural Tasmania.
Australian stand-up comedian Eric Bana has often portrayed Chopper in many of his parodies and youtube videos as an inherently vicious, yet funny character. Even a charming misfit at times.
