Annette Artani
My parents came here from Kefalonia, Greece. I grew up SURROUNDED by family. At one point I lived in a three-apartment house in Corona with my sister and parents, AND my grandparents and my aunt and uncle. Everybody had a hand in raising me!"
Growing Up Greek-American:
"I come from a strong cultural background, which caused a lot of turmoil for me- particularly as a teenager. My parents' values were always much more traditional than most Americans'. But my morals are very much a part of me.. they dictate how I treat my body and also how I respect other people."
Growing Up Star-Struck:
"I KNEW from an early age that performing was ALL I would ever want to do! I was ten when I started doing local musical theater.. I loved being in front of a live audience. As I got older I began competing in all kinds of pageants and talent showcases.. I was a state finalist in the America's Favorite Teenager Contest, for instance. And I was front and center at every theatrical event in school.. anything to put myself out there! Then I won the BMG Scholarship Award for a song I wrote called 'Summer Days'. I was sixteen and Billboard covered it. I was really pumped."
