Sorry I don't understand the part you don't agree with, are you saying that you don't like The United States and NATO protecting and providing security at the Olympic games because it may make your lives uncomfortable for 2 weeks? I think that's pretty selfish.
Personally as Greek American it would make me feel much more safer having Army guards from U.S.A and other countries providing security. I don't think Greeks should view this as them not being capable protecting it's citizens and guests, even though they have a hard time controlling soccer matches at times, and they also shouldn't view this as them not feeling "free" because of the army presence, they should feel safe Europe fails to recognize this or turns the other cheek because they may feel they are not in danger but the truth is the entire world is in danger from terrorists, they are fooling themselves if they think Arab terrorists would spare them.
My fears:
The sad fact is Greece has a very large Muslim population furthermore it's very close to the middle east and we have no idea who or what got through the Albanian, turkey and other borders that surrounds Greece. Some of the Arab citizens who live in Greece (illegally I may add) hate Americans and Jewish people they are fanatics add them with the communists anti-Americans and you have a dangerous situation.
Heard a Greek radio host say although he lives in Athens sometimes he feels like he lives in Sudan or Iraq with so many Arab illegal citizens walking the streets. And I'm scared of that.
I'll give you an example. After Nick Berg was beheaded in Iraq, Alpha TV station interviewed an Iraqi man who lives in Greece, he was very angry toward Americans because he lost family members in Iraq and said that Nick Berg's murder was justified and that if he was there tha ton ekane komatakia!!!! the Anchor tried to reason with him that Nick Berg was an innocent civilian who went there to help his people not hurt them but he was falling on deaf ears this guy looked like a maniac and kept on threatening Americans, what if someone like that hears me speaking in English and tries to kidnap me or try to harm me???if Army presence is present criminals will think twice before attempring to do something like that.
The more security the better when a country accepts the task of hosting an important event like the Olympics you also have the responsibility to provide as much security as possible, the world is much different than it was 4 years ago.
