Dear Friends
Please take five minutes to read the following.
We all must have heard and some of us visited either Disneyland Paris or their Disneyland theme parks at the states.
We are Europeans and all of our countries have a long history full of myths, legends, culture. We have a mythology which goes back thousand of years and this is our heritage which is being lost slowly.
We can do something which will preserve them and also help the younger generations and not only to learn more about them. The idea is to build the ‘’Euroland theme park’’ (the name can change to something more suitable, the one used is just a suggestion) based on the European legends and myths.
Lets make a start here and now and make a movement to support this idea and try to put it forward were it may found more supporters until we reach the people that are able to make the decisions and create it.
One warning goes out to anyone that may try or want to try to put all this under any political banner. Do not even think about it because our heritage and culture does not have any colour and it belongs to everyone irrespective of his/hers political views. Help is welcome by everybody that wishes to assist.
The first step is an attempt by the undersigned to make an, as much as possible, list of myths and legends for each European country with links to web pages that give much more detailed information for each and relevant bibliography. I have already made a platform and I am including such web sites in the web site which is mentioned at the end of this letter.
A discussion forum have also been established for the exchange of ideas and suggesting forms that we can pass the idea to more people and ways to put it forward to the ‘’power points’’.
The outline of the idea is as follows.
Location (proposed) to be build near the ancient Olympia. Part of my reasoning, apart that I am Greek and of course I will support first my country, are as follows:
1. Being close to Patra it is accessible by car from almost all of Europe.
2. Distance form Athens, a few hours drive
3. The ancient Olympia being close by giving the opportunity to the visitor to visit the place were the olympic games were born
4. The Mystras castle and the Dyros caves in a distance that can allow the visitors to combine a visit there also if they wish also
What about the cost of building and maintaining it you will ask. Why not the European community to undertake the development as a whole and each country that will participate to undertake to construct their ‘’section’’.
Further more there can be private funding by a number of sources. There will be the need for Hotels, transportation, restaurants, gift shops, etc. I think that should the plan go ahead they will line up in order to be the ones that they will have the exclusivity or be part of the project.
I do hope that I made the proposal somehow clear and I apologise for not writing the letter in Greek (if you visit the website the letter is there in Greek).
I just request to let me know if the proposal sounds ‘’possible’’ to be developed to something.
