ATHENS, Greece (AP) - A Greek soccer team plans to sign a book of condolences at the U.S. Embassy after some fans tried to burn the American flag during a minute's silence for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Several hundred AEK fans jeered and booed before a UEFA Cup game against Scotland's Hibernian on Sept. 20. They chanted ``Americans, killers,'' and some attempted to burn the U.S. flag.
A minute's silence for the victims of the attacks in New York and Washington was held before all 77 European games played that week following a decision from European soccer's governing body.
Hibernian coach Alex McLeish said he ``disgusted by the behavior of the AEK fans ... and disappointed that people do not have respect for human life.''
