I have had the pleasure of purchasing three CDs that the Athens 2004 Olympics has put out and I would like to tell everyone to go out and buy them, the music is fantastic! The particular CD collection that I have purchased are: Harmony, Unity and Phos. Phos is a collection of songs by Mikis Theodorakis and it includes some very good Greek artists singing his songs. Harmony is a classical album with singers such as Sarah Brightman, Placido Domingo and Greece's very own diva, the Great Maria Callas and Vangelis. It is uplifting and as its name says, harmonious. And the third CD is Unity, which is exhillarating and beautifully mastered. It is a compilation of duets by great artists such as George Dalaras with Cheb Mami and Herbert Groenemeyer singing "Everlasting" which is an exotic experience in itself. Another exotic tune is Brian Eno with Skin and Rachid Taha singing "Still Standing" - incredible! I was stunned to see Alice Cooper included in this compilation and it was a wonderful surprise. But my favorite track is Sting with Mariza singing "A Thousand Years" which Sting wrote. And to end this glorious CD, is Trevor Horn with Yiannis Kotsiras and Tarkan singing "Pass the Flame" which is the official torch relay theme. Absolutely fabulous!
I am sure there is more music from the official 2004 Athens Olympics and I urge you to go out and buy these fabulous CDs as opposed to downloading them as some of the proceeds are donated to charities, such as Unicef and AIDS. These are great causes and great music. This just adds to the thrilling experience of the Olympics this summer and this is a way of maintaining this wonderful feeling of joy and pride. Every time I listen to the CDs I am transformed back to those 17 days in August when Greece sparkled and my spirit soared!
