I am a librarian in San Diego and among many reviews of The Man With The Black Worrybeads I am posting one for some of the non believers. "Rumanes has managed to accomplish what novelists rarely can - he was able
to construct a fine plot with ample action and, at the same time, implement a thoroughly realistic dialog for his characters. The main character is Petros Zervas, a blue-eyed Greek who fearlessly flaunts danger with an abandon that only his youth and independence could justify. We also meet Nazi commanders, an Austrian widow who has had her spirit stripped and other tremendously vital characters who are affected by Zervas bravado."
"The depth of plot and intrigue invented by Rumanes here makes for an exiting reading experience that few, if any, recent novelists have equaled."
"It is a real joy to come across such a brilliantly presented novel amid today's torrent of fiction. It is a fine example of intriguing drama at its very best."
