SVATS, my friend,(and Cretan for that matter)I agree with what you say about Greece throwing a monkey wrench in Hitler's plans . My problem, however, is with your following statement in which you contradict yourself. First you state that it is stupid to keep comparing Greece and the U.S., but the very next sentence you do exactly what you denounce by comparing the relative patriotism among the citizens of the two countries.First of all I believe that your statement is false. The feeling of Patriotism does not lie in the history of that particular country , but in the hearts of it's citizens.Namely in the ideals, civility, justice, and the opportunities that particular nation affords it's citizens. In essence PRESENT patriotism does not wholy encompass just the past, but the present and most important the future. Your statement, therefore, can be broadened to the rest of the world on the assumption that no other nation of the world has the grand history of Greece, therefore, no other people of this world are as patriotic as the Greeks. This assumption is false. As for the history of the U.S., it is fraught with civil liberties and ingenuity. In two thousand years, the citizen's of the world will look upon America's history and appreciate it as we do that of Greece today.
