Pollu kalu idea Giorgo - omos krimas pou uparxh kai ena 'small catch' (pou leme) >>
Indeed this is a great campaign - to invite the best of poets (from around the globe) to contribute their own works and unique ideas on the subject/theme of:
THE OLIVE: The sacred tree, symbol of athletic games and of peace" at the 2nd Thessaloniki Poetry Festival.
However, I wonder how many poets will ultimately submit their works (3 poems each being required) considering there is an added cost involved in the entry process ?? Apparently, each poet or entrant is required to sign a footnote reading:
"NOTE: I agree to purchase ten (10) copies of the book, to be delivered at the festival venue, at the special total price of 150 Euros".
Although raising funds and added reveue is quite a normal process for any committee to ensure the grandure and success of its upcoming 'Festival/s', surely this entrant fee is a little excessive (if not unnecessay), considering all poetry entrants need to cover all costs and travel expenses for their own attendence anyway. I would hate to think that this poetry and music campaign fails to produce the large numbers that are eagerly anticipated - before it even begins; and would hope that the organisers (and associated stake-holders) reconsider this extra fee (in due time) - so as to ensure a greater, overall participation of actual poetry entrants.
(Some of the best and even undiscovered or unknown poets are not necessarily swimming in 'loot' - take a careful look at history and see where most of them originally come from).
