Metaphysics and Paranormal subject matters are equivalent to and often termed 'Aesthetic Theory/ies' > which essentially means: those theories/hypotheses that can neither be proven or disproved , at any point in time. Indeed, any 'Joe' is free to come up with any given theory. However, these unproven/invalidated theories and bits of information are in effect >> pointless/useless in the real world and outside or beyond the individual/s concerned. Aesthetic theories basically serve to justify or support the beliefs and claims of those who are either unaffected or disinterested in the usual methods/protocols of 'scrutiny and criticism'.

Metaphysics is a branch of Philosophy concerned with the efforts of explaining 'the nature of reality'.

Metaphysics also covers things such as empirical explanations of the world (ie: true science), however people quite often use the term loosely to justify even the most ludicrous of beliefs or ideas, at times.

As argued meticulously by the existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre, "reality" is the sum of experiences that one has with the world. This also includes experiences such as one's delusions, mental apparitions, and the like. In order to establish some level of uniformity and universality within the realms of experience and notions of reality , empirical science relies upon the reproductability of events. Therefore, anything [else] that cannot be reproduced by experimental validation is ultimately considered mere 'belief/s'.

The advance of human knowledge regarding the state of reality is based on modifying ideals and principles of current science. This leads to predictions. Experimental verification of these predictions leads to a universality of these new ideals in the realm of our current wisdom and knowledge. This cycle of prediction and validation is the underlying principle (or science) that ever refines our notion of reality. This method of 'open scrutiny' is consequently/exactly what is lacking in the field of Metaphysics.

Anything else or other than verified/validated matter is therefore merely an 'Aesthetic Theory': that is, a set of ideals or beliefs that can neither be proven or disproved . Many groups and individuals alike tend to use such 'aesthetic principles' [whether consciously or unwittingly] to support their varying and alternative beliefs - - simply because they are unaffected by scrutiny and/or criticism. Aesthetic theories tend to nourish a false sense of security and validity for those individuals who dabble in subject matters that are literally beyond proof or impossible to prove. To this extent, non-empirical metaphysics is a means to an end for one to support their very own "ivory-tower" ideals. Such "philosophy" is stale and does nothing to advance humanity; it has surfaced time and time again throughout history; and very often is said to retard the course of 'human development and civilization' - to some degree.
