All Around is Light
Dear friends,
The following is copy for American Ballet Theatre's Hellenic Celebration.
ABT Presents A Luminous Night for the Cultural Olympiad Tuesday, May 20, at 8 pm.
American Ballet Theatre presents a tribute to the 2001-2004 Cultural Olympiad with a truly ³luminous² evening inspired by the classic art and culture of Greece.
Renowned filmmaker Costa-Gavras directs artists from Greece and around the world for this unique performance of Greek music, dance and mythology. The many highlights include:
* A World Premiere ballet Artemis, choreographed by Lar Lubovitch, inspired by the myth of the ³goddess of the hunt² and Actaeon, her mortal admirer. * The magnificent voices of opera singer Elena Kelesidou and contemporary singer-guitarist George Dalaras in a wonderful selection of Greek songs * A recitation of the poetry of Greece by actress Lydia Koniordou * Two conductors will share the podium leading American Ballet Theatre's Orchestra for this special evening: David LaMarche, maestro for ABT, plus Lucas Karytinos, Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera
This once-in-a-lifetime evening presents a glorious celebration of the enduring soul of Greek culture and the shining torch of Greek civilization.
It will be an evening that will reflect the spirit of the Cultural Olympiad for every country in the world, an evening when you too will truly experience that ³All Around is Light²!
For tickets, please call the Metropolitan Opera House at 212-362-6000.
Tickets are priced from $20-$80.
Your presence as well as the presence of all who love Greece will be highly appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing you in person,
Dimitris Platis Consul General of Greece
