There is a proposal by The Municipal Art Society of New York to recreate the World Trade Center in lights as a memorial to the victims.
The towers would stand for one month on edge of ground zero.

The 'Towers Of Light' proposal involves beaming lights/lasers in the Manhattan skyline where the World Trade Centre once stood. The idea emerged in the weeks after the Terrorist attacks: it came from architects and artists.

When asked about the plan, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's spokeman said,"It's under consideration."

Battery Park City officials and members of Community Board 1 will meet with Municipal Art Society representatives next month to discuss the plan. The Municipal Art Society would light up the spotlights in March 11

There is no better illustration of the power of a renewed bridge between the arts and business than the project of the artists LaVerdierre and Myoda who, in partnership with the architects Bennett and Bonevardi, are creating ‘Towers of Light’. This is nothing less than an effort to restore the World Trade Center in mythic dimensions through the medium of towering beams of ghostly light. The pathway to realising this project is entrepreneurial action in motion, involving corporate sponsors, technologists and city government officials, working in fast forward.
